We know you've seen those breathalyzer costumes at Spirit Halloween and other stores. "Blow here" instructions are placed in the most interesting of places. We get it, it's hilarious.
But that's a funny costume, it's meant to be hilarious. People who have to deal with the real deal don't find ignition interlock devices and breathalyzers as funny. As great as we are at helping our clients through such a rough spot, we know they'd rather avoid this interlock process completely. So it's important to drive sober after those costume parties if you want to avoid the real breathalyzer.
Halloween... It's such a fun holiday, filled with costumes, candy, and spooky celebrations. Trick-or-treaters excitedly ask for goodies. Adults get in on the fun too with dressing up in costumes and enjoying spiked witches' brew. Boos and booze, it's the perfect combination. Until someone does something really scary...
Getting behind the wheel after drinking is always a very dangerous decision. On Halloween night, drivers have even more to pay attention to on the roads. They should also keep an eye out for pedestrians — whether they be children trick-or-treating or adults who have had too much to drink.
No need to add drunk driving to the list of scary things.
The U.S. Department of Transportation shared a spooky statistic: During Halloween night during the years 2014-2018, there were 145 people killed in drunk driving crashes.
If you plan to drink, plan for a sober driver to take you home. Is it your turn to be the designated driver? Take that role seriously and do not consume alcohol, not even one drink. Always remember to plan ahead if you will be celebrating:
- Don't let a friend drink and drive. Take the keys away and make arrangements to get your friend home safely.
- Remember that it is never okay to drink and drive. Even if you’ve had only one alcoholic beverage, designate a sober driver or plan to use public transportation or a ride service to get home safely.
- If you see a drunk driver on the road, contact law enforcement.
Let’s keep all you ghouls and boys safe by driving sober — Halloween night and every day. If you need our help with this commitment to sober driving, contact us to learn about how our breathalyzer and interlock products may be able to help.
