It's not very often that we deal with extreme cold in Alabama, especially if you're in the southern part of the state. But some Alabama residents will experience occasional cold snaps, and others may travel to very cold areas in other states. Have you ever thought about how the cold could affect your ignition interlock? If your automobile breathalyzer is exposed to temperatures below zero some days, it’s a valid concern to think about your device’s reliability. Here are just a few general notes about caring for your breathalyzer during these cold times.
Whether you're used to dealing with this cold climate or you moved to a cold weather area from somewhere else, we'll make sure your interlock program is handled seamlessly from start to finish no matter what.
For years, our team has been testing and continuously improving our products to set the standard and provide our clients the best interlock experience possible. A properly certified ignition interlock provider also follows and continues to maintain the federal NHTSA standards in its devices. These standards outline the most current specifications for ignition interlock devices. In these standards, ignition interlock devices must be able to withstand certain environmental elements such as extreme cold.
Although some other providers may have products that could cause frustrations in lower temperatures, our clients do not experience ignition interlock issues with the cold. Our interlock devices are very durable, and we simply recommend that you treat your unit like other electronic devices. Remember that your Smart Start ignition interlock will perform fine during even the coldest weather.
If you are in an especially cold area and just want to take extra precautions, you MAY be allowed to disconnect your head unit from the curly cord and take it inside with you for extra protection. ***Make sure to confirm that you can disconnect the head unit with your program oversight authority and with Smart Start of Alabama BEFORE attempting to do so since some areas do not allow you to disconnect your head unit!
The bottom line is that we stand by our products and the technology. If you have concerns due to extreme weather conditions or anything else, do not hesitate to reach out to our friendly customer service representatives by phone or by using our contact form.
