We all know that Cinco de Mayo translates into margaritas and guacamole in the U.S. But a DWI isn't worth even the best tequila. Cinco de Mayo has a reputation for being a drinking day but make sure you're sober when you drive.
In the U.S., there is a tradition of eating tacos and enchiladas on this holiday. There is also a tradition of drinking Mexican inspired alcoholic drinks. Cinco de Mayo is even called Cinco de Drinko sometimes. As your interlock provider we want to remind you not to drivo if you Cinco de Drinko.
Cinco de Mayo means "fifth of May" and is an annual celebration held on May 5th. The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army's victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Cinco de Mayo is sometimes mistaken for Mexico's Independence Day which is celebrated on September 16th. In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has taken on a significance beyond that in many parts of Mexico.
There’s no big secret to avoiding a DUI on these alcohol-focused holidays, just don’t drink and drive and you won’t have to worry. A great way to avoid drunk driving is to plan ahead. Your safe driving plan may include a ridesharing service, a designated driver, staying sober, a taxi or public transportation, or something else other than drinking and driving.
Drive sober or don’t drive. On Cinco de Mayo and every day, we want to keep the roads as safe as possible. If you need help monitoring your breath alcohol content to make sure you're ok to drive, contact us about our interlock devices.
