This post isn't about ignition interlock devices. This isn't even a current event related to interlock program laws. This is just to share a random story related to drunk driving that we stumbled upon and found very interesting...
This story was posted by CBS News in 2012. It's still being read and shared.
Niles Gammons was arrested in the early morning of November 4, 2012. It was a Sunday morning at 1:08 a.m. The 22-year old driver was arrested for drunk driving, brought to police headquarters, issued citations, and released to an adult. His blood alcohol content was reported at .116 according to this story.
Time turned back (literally) due to daylight savings time. At 2 a.m., the time fell back to 1 a.m. Then just a few minutes later, the same driver who had just been released from jail was seen driving again by (you won't believe this...) the exact same police officer who arrested him the first time! Yep, this guy was caught driving drunk again!
It's wild enough that the man was arrested a second time on the same day (again for drunk driving), but he was actually arrested again on the exact same day and at the exact same time! Because of daylight savings time, the clock once again read 1:08 a.m. when he was arrested the second time. Unfortunately he didn't learn from his mistake the first time.
There's more to DST than just wild stories of people doing the exact same thing twice on the exact same day and even at the exact same time. Read our previous blog post for more info related to how daylight savings time might possibly impact your risk of being in a car accident. Did you know that there is some research that suggests there may even be a link between DST and an increased risk of DUI?
Getting two completely separate drunk driving charges an hour apart on the same day at the same time is a rarity. But getting even one drunk driving charge is something you don't want to happen. If "don't drink and drive" advice isn't enough to keep you sober behind the wheel, contact us online or call us to see how our interlock products might be able to help.
