How can we help interlock customers who are deaf or hard of hearing?

POSTED ON: 08/10/2021

Smart Start of Alabama can make adjustments to our ignition interlocks so that customers who are deaf or hard of hearing can fulfill court or state DUI requirements. If you need hearing accommodations, we're the best ignition interlock provider.

Ignition interlocks for deaf or hard of hearing clients

We have built a positive reputation with our clients by providing a seamless and easy ignition interlock program, and our customers who are deaf or hard of hearing are included in those satisfied customers. For our deaf or hard of hearing clients, we can provide an external LED light that can be attached to a vehicle’s dash so a client will know when the ignition interlock device is prompting for a test.

Here’s how it works...

After starting a vehicle with ignition interlock installed, Smart Start clients are required to perform a random rolling retest occasionally. This is simply a breath test required after passing the initial test to start the vehicle. This helps to prevent the driver from drinking alcohol after the initial test. For most of our clients, an ignition interlock device makes a beeping noise to prompt for random rolling retests. Since a beep or other noise could be missed by someone who is deaf or hard of hearing, Smart Start of Alabama can add an external LED light for our deaf or hard of hearing clients.

The external LED light will flash so our deaf or hard of hearing clients can be alerted to the fact that they need to perform a random rolling retest. With the light prompts, our deaf or hard of hearing clients won’t miss a rolling retest.

Installing an ignition interlock device for a client who is deaf or hard of hearing

When your ignition interlock installation appointment is scheduled, just make sure our call center representatives know about your hearing concerns. Our agents will let the service shop know that you need an external light. When you arrive for your appointment, our licensed service technicians will install the ignition interlock device and the light. They will also provide training on using our device and you'll have a chance to ask any questions.

We hear your concerns and are ready to help you

Smart Start of Alabama provides the most advanced, discreet, and simple-to-use products to separate drinking from driving. We offer great service and support. If you need to install an ignition interlock device and are deaf or hard of hearing, feel free to fill out our online contact form instead of calling.
