Make your Super Bowl celebration super by driving sober

POSTED ON: 01/30/2020

Football watch parties, couch celebrations, and tailgating are all very exciting parts of football season. Getting home safely from your fun gatherings is even more exciting. Super Bowl LIV is sure to be a great game. Be a team player and remember: Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk! If you couldn’t afford a ticket and flight to the big game, you probably can’t afford a DUI.

Have a game plan

Football season is known for drinking and celebrating, making travel during this time potentially dangerous. A great way to avoid drunk driving is to have a game plan. Just like the coaches come up with a game plan before kickoff, you should make sure you know how you’re getting back home BEFORE you head out to that party. Your safe driving plan may include public transportation, a designated driver, a taxi, a ridesharing service, or something else other than driving home after drinking.

Designated drivers are the real MVPs

The job of a designated driver is extremely important. Yes, it’s even more important than the kicker who needs to make a field goal at the end of the fourth quarter to tie the game. If you’re driving, do not drink any alcohol — people are relying on you. Enjoy the company, the food, and the non-alcoholic drinks. Tell others about your MVP status on social media using #DesignatedDriver.

Don’t just sit on the sidelines, be a responsible party host

If you’re hosting a party, be responsible! Serve plenty of snacks and non-alcoholic drink options. Fun decor (including these free printables) can make the concession stand more fun. Make sure your guests are safe to drive before they leave. If they’re not, don’t let them get behind the wheel no matter what it takes. Take their keys, ask them to stay over for the night, or find them a sober ride home.

Don’t risk getting a penalty called on you: It’s illegal to drive drunk

You know the rules, drive sober or don’t drive. If you do suspect someone is driving impaired, call 911 to report the driver. Smart Start of Alabama wants to help you win big with sober driving. Contact us to see how we keep the roads safe.
