But another group of people very important to how safe the roads are is truck drivers. And since it's National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, we just wanted to give a shout out to all the hard-working men and women who operate these giant machines on the roadways.
National Truck Driver Appreciation Week
National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is an annual, nationwide celebration and cornerstone program launched by the American Trucking Associations in 1988 to recognize and honor the vital contributions of truck drivers to our daily lives and the economy.
One truck driver's words of wisdom
Josh has been a truck driver for many years. "I truly love my job, I get to see the country. I love blowing the horn at the little kids, it makes my day." We asked him to share some insight into how we can all make the roads a safer place when it comes to driving alongside big rigs. He shared with us that his biggest truck driving pet peeve (other than all the government regulations that make his job more stressful) is simply when people don't give them respect on the road. "My worst fear is killing somebody in an accident." He hopes you'll allow a little extra space between you and his truck, be mindful of his blindspots, and just be extra careful when you're driving around such a large vehicle. Remember, large trucks and buses face unique safety challenges. Let's help them keep the roads safer for all of us.

There's no doubt truck drivers are very important to our lifestyle and to our economy. According to a site dedicated fully to National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, nearly every aspect of daily life is made possible because a truck driver delivered the goods and resources people need.
