Now what? Monthly service after getting an interlock device installed

You had an ignition interlock device (aka IID) installed in your car and you’re feeling ready to move past the mistake of your drunk driving charge. You’re trying to figure out what needs to be done to meet the requirements of your restricted license, ALEA / DPS, and your newly installed interlock, but it's a bit overwhelming. Smart Start of Alabama understands that this is a stressful time for you, and we will do our best to make sure the maintenance of your alcohol device is one less worry.

Monthly service & device calibration

You will be required to bring your vehicle in for interlock service and calibration only once per month. You will make your monthly payment and the information that is on your interlock device will be downloaded and sent to your monitoring authority. Your interlock unit will also be calibrated during that monthly visit to make sure it stays within the operating parameters that Alabama state law, NHTSA, and your specific interlock program require.

Rescheduling the interlock calibration appointment

If you are unable to make your scheduled appointment date, we can work with you to reschedule. Just make sure to contact us as soon as possible before the scheduled appointment. Our unit allows a five day grace period past your scheduled appointment date. Call us as soon as you find out you won't be able to make the appointment, and we'll get you rescheduled.

What happens if I don't bring my vehicle in monthly?

Your vehicle will go into a lockout and the vehicle will not start if you let your grace period expire. Our interlock device unit has a remote code unlock feature. You’ll call us at 1-866-447-8686 to get the code. Then you’ll be able to start your vehicle one time after a successful breath test. At that point you’ll need to drive the vehicle directly into a service center. Remember, keeping up with your monthly appointments is necessary to successfully complete your interlock program.
