What does Alabama law say about ignition interlock devices? Here is just a quick overview:
If you have been arrested or convicted of driving under the influence in Alabama, you will probably be required to install an ignition interlock. Ignition interlock is required when you enter into a deferred prosecution agreement or pretrial diversion program, are convicted of a first offense with a BAC of 0.15 or above, or are convicted of a repeat offense or refusal. More information about the length of time an ignition interlock may be required, court costs, and what constitutes a violation on the device can be found in our reference guide.
Driving a vehicle that does not have an ignition interlock is illegal if you have been ordered by the court to install the device. Having someone else blow into the device for you is also illegal for you and the person who blows. These are considered separate charges from the DWI and carry their own jail time and fines.
