You had a vehicle interlock device installed in your vehicle and you’re feeling ready to move past the mistake of your drunk driving charge. You’re trying to figure out what needs to be done to meet the requirements of your restricted license, ALEA / DPS, and your automobile blow machine, but it's a bit overwhelming. Smart Start of Alabama understands that this is a stressful time for you, and we will do our best to make sure the maintenance of your alcohol device is one less worry.
Once a month you will be required to bring your vehicle in for service and calibration. At that time, you will make your monthly payment and the information that is on your device will be downloaded and sent to your monitoring authority. Your unit will also be calibrated during each visit to make sure it stays within the operating parameters that NHTSA, Alabama state law, and your specific program require. This is so important since complying with your program's rules is what will allow you to eventually remove the interlock device.
Calibration simply means that we adjust the automobile breathalyzer device to make sure it meets all required standards (in other words, we keep it working at its best). The device's accuracy is very important, so the initital calibration and monthly follow ups will keep your breath machine registering your breath samples properly. The fuel cell technology of our blow machines is impressive, but we have to check the devices regularly to ensure that they are operating at peak performance for your benefit.
If you are working or cannot make it in on your scheduled appointment date, we can work with you to reschedule. Our unit allows a 5 day grace period past your scheduled appointment date. But make sure you contact us ahead of time since missing appointments can make your monitoring authority think you're not taking your program seriously. In the event your grace period expires, your vehicle will go into a lockout and the vehicle will not start. Our unit has a remote code unlock feature. You’ll call us at 1-866-447-8686 to get the code. Then you’ll be able to start your vehicle one time after a successful breath test. At that point you’ll need to drive the vehicle directly into a service center.
Our numerous service centers are flexible to your needs when your monthly service appointment is due. From the time you call to schedule your initial appointment until the time we remove your interlock car device, you will receive courteous and prompt service from all of our qualified technicians and customer service representatives. We appreciate you choosing Smart Start of Alabama to help you separate drinking from driving!
